In a shocking revelation of how Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is not even bothered about losing lakhs of rupees funds

According to official records of the Pune Municipal Corporation, the state electricity board had excavated only 232 km of roadsin the past two years, when in fact the actual figure is 1,413 km.

The Pune Municipal Corporation charged a subsidised rate of Rs 2,200 per km from agencies like MSEB, BSNL and MNGL. So, apart from the 232-km stretch, the civic body has lost about Rs 26 lakh in revenue for the remaining 1,181 km.

However, while defending the error by his own officials, Pune Municipal Corporation commissioner Mahesh Pathak claimed that the corporation couldn't force government agencies to pay charges to the civic body before digging up city roads.

"The electricity board had floated a tender worth of Rs 568 crore for its cabling work, and it paid that amount to a contractor. When the board can shell out such hefty amounts to contractors, why can't it pay the official charges to PMC?" questioned corporator Avinash Bagwe.u00a0
