The mortal remains of Rohit Arya, who was shot dead in a police encounter in Mumbai, were brought to Pune's Vaikunth crematorium around 2 a.m. on Friday. His wife and two children were present during the final rites.
His body was transported from Mumbai to Pune in an ambulance around 2 a.m. for the last rituals. Family members sat silently in the waiting area, their grief evident as arrangements for cremation were made.
According to sources, Arya's cremation took place at 2:24 a.m. in the electric chamber. Only a few close relatives were present during the ceremony.
Arya, a 51-year-old resident of Kothrud, was killed in a police encounter that has drawn widespread attention and raised several questions about the events leading up to the incident. Officials said his body was handed over to the family after post-mortem formalities were completed.
