The Mahalunge MIDC police have arrested a minor accused of killing a three-year-old boy at Mahalunge village in Chakan. He was taken into custody from the Pune railway station while trying to flee, said police.
According to the police, the toddler's body was found stuffed inside a bag in a room next to where the accused was staying. Following the discovery, the police launched an intensive manhunt. By reviewing CCTV footage from the area and utilising technical surveillance, investigators tracked the suspect's movements. Police said that the accused, a minor hailing from Bihar, was intercepted as he was attempting to board a train.
The victim went missing on Friday (May 1) while playing outside his home. After the family filed a missing person's report, a search led to the discovery of the child's remains. Preliminary medical examinations revealed that the child had been subjected to unnatural abuse before being killed.
Police said that after the arrest, the juvenile offender confessed to the crime. He has since been taken into custody under the established legal procedures for minors. He has been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 103(1) (murder) and 238 and sections 4 and 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the POCSO Act.
This was the second such incident reported in Pune about the toddler's death. Recently, a 3-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by a 65-year-old man in Narsapur village, Bhor Taluka. The accused in this case has been arrested.
