A device containing low-grade explosives was found inside a private hospital in Pune's Hadapsar area in Maharashtra on Wednesday night, prompting a major security response from police and bomb disposal teams, reported the PTI.

According to officials, the suspicious object was discovered near a washroom within the hospital premises.

Police said a doctor at the hospital noticed the suspicious device, which reportedly had a digital clock-like instrument attached to it, and immediately alerted the police control room.

Following the alert, a team from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) rushed to the spot.

Explosive device safely disposed

The BDDS team carefully removed the object from the hospital premises and transported it to a nearby open ground, where it was safely disposed, according to the PTI.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed that the device contained low-grade explosives.

"A device having low-grade explosives was found on the premises of a Pune hospital. BDDS was called and they successfully disposed of the explosives," he told reporters, the news agency reported.

ATS and crime branch begin probe

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), along with Pune Police and the Crime Branch, has launched an investigation into the incident, as per the PTI.

Officials said investigators are examining all possible angles, including the possibility of a terror-related motive.

Police have not yet disclosed further details about the source of the device or whether any suspects have been identified.

Following the incident, security in and around the hospital area was increased as police teams carried out searches and gathered evidence from the scene.

The officials were also reviewing CCTV footage and questioning hospital staff as part of the investigation.

Raids at over 40 locations linked to Shahzad Bhatti network

Meanwhile, in an another case, the ATS on Wednesday carried out coordinated raids at more than 40 locations across the state as part of an investigation into alleged links with Pakistan-based gangster Shahzad Bhatti, reported the PTI.

Officials said at least 53 individuals were being questioned in connection with the probe.

The searches began early in the morning and were carried out in several locations including Mumbai, Akola, Nanded, Pune, Nashik, Jalgaon and Nagpur.

Operations were also conducted in Mira Road in Thane district and Nalasopara in Palghar district.

According to officials, the ATS had received specific intelligence regarding suspicious activities involving individuals allegedly connected to Bhatti and his syndicate.

Investigators suspect that Bhatti, who is believed to operate his gang from abroad, was attempting to influence young people in India towards anti-national activities through social media platforms.
