Heavy monsoon rain triggered floods, landslides, and widespread disruption across Pune district on Monday. Rivers overflowed, roads and highways were submerged, bridges were closed, and transport services were severely disrupted, prompting large-scale rescue operations across the district.
The worst tragedy was reported from Patan village in Maval taluka, where a rain-triggered landslide buried a house at the foothills of Visapur Fort. Rescue teams recovered three bodies from the debris while searches continued for any remaining victims. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local administration, and disaster response teams remained at the site.
In Alandi, the overflowing Indrayani River left hundreds of pilgrims stranded. Rescue teams evacuated 408 pilgrims and residents from the temple precincts, Indrayani Nagari, Thakurbuwa Mandap, and Gopalpura. Around 150 cattle were also shifted to safer locations.

Floodwaters also entered the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj temple accommodation area, where 20 police personnel and four civilians were stranded. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Disaster Response Force (PDRF) rescued all 24 people using life jackets, ropes, and life rings.
Heavy rain created flood-like conditions in Chakan and Khed talukas, submerging roads and causing massive traffic congestion on the Pune-Nashik Highway. Key junctions, including Chimbali Phata, Spicer Chowk, Alandi Phata, Talegaon Chowk, and Ambethan Chowk, remained under waist-deep water.
Waterlogging in Chakan MIDC left workers stranded. Rescue teams evacuated around 25 workers trapped inside a flooded factory near Chakan-Chimbali Phata. Passengers stranded in a bus near Ghorawadi railway station were also rescued, while 30 to 35 residents of Jambhe village were shifted to a nearby school after floodwaters entered their homes. Firefighters rescued two girls trapped inside their house in Dhayari.
A landslide on the Mumbai-Pune highway forced authorities to suspend Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus services between Pune and Mumbai until further notice. Four buses bound for Mumbai were recalled from the Urse Toll Plaza as a precaution. Authorities urged commuters to avoid the route until it is declared safe.
Heavy rain also disrupted flight operations. Two flights were temporarily diverted due to poor weather before returning to Pune, while one flight was cancelled for operational reasons. Airport authorities said services are gradually returning to normal.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Lohegaon recorded 146.8 mm of rainfall, Pashan 113 mm, and Shivajinagar 108.4 mm in the last 24 hours. Shivajinagar's rainfall was the fourth-highest 24-hour total ever recorded in July. In neighbouring Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chinchwad recorded 206 mm, causing widespread flooding.
After red alert, CM Devendra Fadnavis appealed to Warkaris to avoid gathering in Dehu and Alandi and instead join the Ashadhi Wari directly from Pune. He urged devotees to follow official advisories and prioritise safety. Authorities, including the NDRF, PMRDA, police, fire services, and civic agencies, remain on high alert.
