A nine-year-old girl was tragically killed after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs in a village in Rajasthan's Bundi district, officials said on Tuesday. The incident has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over stray animal management in rural areas, reported PTI.
The victim, identified as Rinku Bheel, a Class 3 student from Alkodia village under the Talera police jurisdiction, had stepped out of her home early in the morning when the attack occurred. According to police, the incident took place around 6 am when the child went towards nearby fields. During this time, she was surrounded and attacked by a group of stray dogs, reported PTI.
Officials described the attack as extremely severe, with the child sustaining multiple critical injuries. Despite hearing her screams and rushing to the spot, family members were unable to save her. By the time she was rescued, she had suffered fatal injuries. She was taken to a nearby health facility, where doctors declared her dead on arrival, reported PTI.
Authorities have registered a case of accidental death under relevant provisions of law and initiated further inquiry into the incident. After a post-mortem examination conducted by a medical board, the body was handed over to the family. Officials said they are examining the circumstances surrounding the attack and assessing preventive measures, reported PTI.
Following the incident, Lok Sabha Speaker and local Member of Parliament Om Birla visited the bereaved family in Alkodia village. He expressed condolences and extended financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh. He also assured an additional Rs 1 lakh through public contributions and directed district authorities to provide all possible support to the family, reported PTI.
Birla instructed the local administration to take immediate steps to prevent such incidents in the future. He also asked officials to ensure that the affected family receives benefits under welfare schemes, including housing assistance. The incident has once again highlighted gaps in addressing the growing stray dog problem in several parts of the country, reported PTI.
This is not the first such case reported in the region. Earlier this year, another child was seriously injured in a similar attack in the same police jurisdiction and is still undergoing treatment. The repeated incidents have intensified calls for stricter measures to control stray dog populations and improve public safety.
The tragic death has left the village grieving and has triggered demands for urgent administrative action to prevent further loss of life.
