That Harley-Davidson plans to zoom into the Indian market bang in the middle of Recession won't raise an eyebrow for those who know that during the Great Depression of the 1920s, Harley-Davidson was one of the only two major American motorcycle manufacturers to survive.

On Sunday, the jawdropping attractive line of motorcycles will rumble through the city, as part of the Founders Ride. Some of India's most passionate Harley-Davidson enthusiasts will be there led by Harley Davidson Asia Pacific Managing Director David Foley, and Anoop Prakash, Managing Director of Harley-Davidson India, who will be seen on their model year 2010 Harley-Davidson motorcycles. "The Founders Ride is a celebration of the long-held passion for Harley-Davidson in India, which is particularly strong among riders in Mumbai," said Anoop Prakash.This ride will unite enthusiasts who have carried the torch for the Harley-Davidson brand long before the company's official market entry, whether collectors, actors or corporates. Menswear designer Arjun Khanna, who owns a Vintage 1942 Harley-Davidson WLA, is looking forward to feel the "sheer sense of freedom". "I have been an avid biker, and there is no better feeling than being one with the machine. It's therapeutic in many ways, it's my way of relaxing and zoning out," he says.Riding alongside Arjun will also be model/actress Jesse Randhawa and bike enthusiast Monish Dayal. Dayal, who sources spare parts from all over the world, is known to build his own customised bikes. "Harley has a lot of heritage and also a laid-back, cruising vibe. It's going to be an amazing sight as so many Harleys take to the street. You are bound to hear the sounds of thunder as their machines rev up," he says.The convoy will be flagged off at Rampart Row, Kala Ghoda at 10 am and will head to the historic Gateway of India at Apollo Bunder. Easily recognisable in their Harley-Davidson branded riding gear, the group of bikers will ride from the Gateway towards the Queen's Necklace on Marine Drive, past Haji Ali towards Worli Sea Face and on to Bandra, where the Worli-Bandra Sea Link will provide onlookers with a rare photo opportunity. The total distance to be covered is 32 kms.
