Sikkim tunnel collapse kills 10 after landslide in Namchi district

At least 10 people were killed after a landslide triggered the collapse of an under-construction tunnel at the NHPC Teesta Stage VI Hydroelectric Project in Sikkim`s Namchi district. Twenty-five workers and project officials were trapped in the incident, while Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced ex gratia for the victims` families.

At least 10 people were killed after an under construction tunnel collapsed due to a landslide in Sikkim's Namchi district, police said on Tuesday.

A total of 25 people, including project officials and workers, were trapped inside the ADIT-3 tunnel when it suddenly collapsed on Monday.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said the tunnel of NHPC Teesta Stage VI Hydroelectric Project at Samardung in Jholungey caved in due to a landslide.

CM Tamang announced Rs 4 lakh as ex-gratia for the next of kin of those workers who died in the collapse of the tunnel under construction in Namchi district and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
