Govt hospital plans to charge for parking facility to check misuse of premises

To keep unwanted people and their vehicles at bay, Sassoon General Hospital will soon start a pay and park facility on its campus. The development will also make it easy for ferrying patients in and out of the hospital premises.

Haphazardly parked vehicles at Sassoon create a problem for the entry and exit of patients as well as ambulances

"As the parking facility in Sassoon is free, unlike other nearby government buildings, people often park their vehicles haywire. Sometimes they even leave their vehicles for daysu00a0at a stretch while going outstation, as parking at Pune railway station is chargeable too," Dr DG Kulkarni, medical superintendent of Sassoon, said.

NOC secured
It took more than two years for Sassoon to seek approval from government authorities for paid parking. Besides, the hospital has also acquired a No-objection certificate (NOC) from the Pune Municipal Corporation and the police.

"We held an initial meeting today (Tuesday) to discuss the possibility of areas where pay and park facility can be implemented. Charges are yet to be decided, and soon we will be issuing tenders in this regard," Dr Kulkarni said.

Though the hospital authorities have hired security personnel to curb illegal parking on its premises, the heavy flow of traffic inside the hospital campus has become problematic as people park their vehicles outside casualty wing, making it impossible for ambulances to move around freely.u00a0
