Wednesday was a good day for 13 motorcycle enthusiasts - who had been awaiting delivery of their bikes for nearly six months from Kawasaki India - when they rode down from Pune to Navi Mumbai on their new machines.

On their toes
mid-day had earlier reported how the SNK Palm Beach (Navi Mumbai) branch dealer of IKM had kept buyers, in spite of them having paid the full amount in advance, hanging for months. When the matter escalated, the dealership finally was derecognised by IKM itself, without any clear indication of what would happen to the bikes that belonged to the buyers.

Eleven of them had lodged a complaint with the Economic Offences Wing in Navi Mumbai in September. "We said we'll withdraw the complaint once we get possession of our bikes and they were registered," said Navin Bharti, a Borivli resident who had made the full payment for his Kawasaki Z800 on May 19.

After the complaint was lodged, a meeting was held last month between EOW (Navi Mumbai), IKM and the buyers, in which IKM was directed to deliver the bikes on October 18. "Eleven of us had filed a complaint together as a group, the other two had filed separately," said Bharti. "All of us were given the bikes together on Tuesday, at a small function in Koregaon Park."
