Two police officers in Ranchi were suspended after noted economist Jean Dreze complained against them of seeking bribe and harassing him, police said on Wednesday


Ranchi: Two police officers in Ranchi were suspended after noted economist Jean Dreze complained against them of seeking bribe and harassing him, police said on Wednesday.

According to the police, Sub Inspector BN Singh and Assistant Sub Inspector Suresh Thakur, were suspended on the complaint of Dreze.

Dreze lodged complaint to Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi against both policemen alleging that they harassed him and sought bribery of Rs.500

Dreze had taken a bike on December 13 from a colleague for personal use. He parked the vehicle at Ranchi University campus which went missing.

He reached to lodge a complaint at Lalpur police station but the officers denied to register the complaint.

Later Lalpur police on December 15 informed that the bike was picked by them to prevent theft.

When Dreze demanded release of the bike he was allegedly abused and police demanded Rs.500 as bribe.

Acting on the compliant police suspend both policemen and launched an inquiry.
