Under pressure to return money that he had borrowed, a 32-year-old man committed suicide by consuming poison.

According to the police, Farzana Khan, who had lent the money, mentally and physically tortured the deceased, Ashraf Ali. While the police have arrested Khan, two other accused are still at large.u00a0

Ali had borrowed money on interest from Khan six months ago to start a lottery business, but couldn't repay it.

Khan eventually began pressurising Ali for the money, first using intimidation, then resorting to torture. While Ali was at his shop, she would send her accomplices to rough him up.

Even while returning back home, Khan would accost him in the middle of the road. On June 26, Ali consumed poison, saying in his suicide note that he could not handle the pressure. Even though his wife found him and admitted him at Guru Nanak Hospital, he died on Saturday.

A cop from Nirmal Nagar police station said, "We have registered a case against Farzana and her two accomplices under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC."u00a0
