Relentless monsoon showers have triggered widespread waterlogging across Vasai-Virar and Nalasopara, inundating roads, shops and residential societies, while severely disrupting daily life.
Flooded roads have made it difficult for commuters to reach railway stations, compounding travel woes as rail services continue to be disrupted by waterlogged tracks.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Palghar district under a red alert, warning of continued heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
In view of the adverse weather conditions, schools in the district have been closed as a precautionary measure.

Speaking from rain-hit Virar, resident Sagar Dusa said the area has been without electricity for the third consecutive day, with mobile networks and Wi-Fi also down. He said knee-deep water has inundated the locality, forcing him to work from a friend's home elsewhere in Virar due to the prolonged disruptions.
Several parts of Vasai, including Vasai East, and other parts in Vasai West are flooded waist-deep in water. While people aren't leaving their houses, many office-goers have opted to work from home. Vasai resident Joynel Vaz shares, "It has been raining non-stop, winds strong enough to turn umbrellas inside out, branches of trees falling everywhere. I went out yesterday, and the Gass road was flooded. There was also no electricity for a long time, and even the internet was down. We have the option of working from home, so I did not go to work today because it would take me two hours to reach my workplace. Work-from-home is a better alternative in the monsoon season. My friend who lives in Anand Nagar is staying at his cousin's place because his house is submerged."
Another resident, Manjeet, told mid-day.com, "Due to continuous heavy rainfall and strong winds, several areas between Virar West's Global City and the Virar railway station have witnessed severe waterlogging."
Western Railway has cancelled 10 MEMU train services scheduled for Tuesday, due to severe waterlogging caused by continuous heavy rainfall across the Mumbai suburban network.
According to a passenger advisory issued by the railway authorities, the affected services include trains operating between Dahanu Road, Panvel, Vasai Road, Borivali, Virar and Surat.
The cancelled services are:
Train No. 69164 - Dahanu Road-Panvel
Train No. 69165 - Panvel-Vasai Road
Train No. 69168 - Vasai Road-Panvel
Train No. 69167 - Panvel-Vasai Road
Train No. 69166 - Vasai Road-Panvel
Train No. 69161 - Panvel-Dahanu Road
Train No. 69174 - Dahanu Road-Borivali
Train No. 69139 - Borivali-Valsad
Train No. 69141 - Virar-Surat
Train No. 61002 - Dahanu Road-Borivali
Western Railway has advised passengers to plan their journeys accordingly and check the latest train status before commencing travel, as heavy rainfall continues to affect rail operations across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Western Railway suburban local train services between Churchgate and Dahanu Road are running behind schedule, with delays of 10-15 minutes.
Mumbai local train services between Vasai Road and Virar were resumed after a brief disruption caused by heavy rainfall.
The first local towards Churchgate departed from Virar at 3:57 am, restoring connectivity for commuters.
