Western Railway makes Rs 9 crore through ticketless travellers

The WR has conducted regular checks during April, where in 207451 cases of ticketless/irregular travel including unbooked luggage cases were detected resulting into a recovery of Rs 9 crore.


Mumbai: Western Railway generated Rs 9 crore as revenue earned as fines from ticketless travellers, the railways said.


Over Rs. 9 crores were collected in fines through ticketless travellers in April

The WR has conducted regular checks during April, where in 207451 cases of ticketless/irregular travel including unbooked luggage cases were detected resulting into a recovery of Rs 9 crore which is 20 percent more than the corresponding month of the last year.

During the month, 521 cases of illegal transfer of reserved tickets were detected and an amount of Rs. 5,24,390/- was collected through fines. 1357 beggars and unauthorized hawkers were apprehended, evicted, fined and 93 people were sent to jail.

There were 178 checks were conducted against touts and other anti-social elements. As a result, 303 persons were apprehended and prosecuted and fined under various sections of Railways Act 10 were sent to jail.
