Abdullah chaired a special cabinet meeting in Pahalgam. It was the first time that a Jammu and Kashmir government cabinet meeting under Abdullah was held outside the usual summer capital, Srinagar, or the winter capital, Jammu

Abdullah, during the cabinet meeting, gave a 26-minute emotional speech, and said he would not use the terror attack as an opportunity to press for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that he does not believe in "cheap politics"

Following the horrific Pahalgam attack, the Indian government had on May 7 launched Operation Sindoor. The operation targeted militant camps and destroyed their infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK)
