President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath of office to the 60-year-old Rahman at the South Plaza instead of Bangabhaban, departing from a long-standing tradition

After the swearing-in, Rahman signed the oath of office and secrecy. He will serve as Prime Minister for the next five years

Rahman, the son of late President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, returned to Bangladesh in December after living in self-exile in London for 17 years

Earlier in the day, Rahman was elected leader of the parliamentary party by BNP lawmakers

The new Cabinet includes two members from minority communities — BNP Vice President Nitai Roy Chowdhury, a Hindu, and Dipen Dewan, a Buddhist
