Post dense fog in Delhi, sunny weather last morning ensured that services resumed, though with a dozen delays at Mumbai airport

Weather that played a Christmas spoiler for airline travellers last weekend, persisted until Monday morning, especially on the country*s busiest sector, Delhi.

The morning flights on Delhi sector from or to Mumbai were affected till 9 am, until the fog finally gave way to sunny skies.

As the fog cleared at Delhi airport post 9 am, several airlines resumed flights

Thick fog cover limited visibility to 50 meters during the early part of the morning at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the capital, thereby disrupting more than a dozen flights arriving and departing from Mumbai.

The average delay in take-off during this period was up to an hour. "In the morning, bad weather in Delhi led to some delays. But it cleared by 9 am and flight services resumed," said an Air Traffic Control (ATC) official.

MiD DAY had reported yesterday on how a dense fogcover in Delhi and Bangalore was proving to be a nuisance for flyers, as it disrupted 150 flights on these sectors.

Flyers were stranded all over the country as bad weather at Delhi airport had a domino effect on flights
everywhere.

The weather officials

in Delhi, however, predict that the bad weather may strike again, and this time, with rain, on Wednesday and Thursday, which could affect visibility and flight schedules.

The early evening flight services from Mumbai to Delhi largely operated on time.

"Flights on Monday operated at their scheduled time, and there were no major delays or cancellations on the route," said a spokesperson of Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (MIAL).

The flight services on Bangalore sector operated punctually until evening.
