Mumbai police on October 9, Friday, issued traffic restrictions in Goregaon area of the city to facilitate works for the Coastal Road Project.

Reports cited a traffic notification that a key road near the Veer Savarkar Flyover in Goregaon (W) will be closed to traffic for a month to facilitate pillar construction for the Coastal Road Project.

The closure will remain in place until November 9, 2026. Vehicles will not be allowed to use this stretch during construction. or those The traffic restrictions have been imposed to allow excavation and construction work for 52 pillars along a 1,500-metre stretch.

There are certain diversions that have been announced with traffic police urging motorists to follow directional signboards and instructions from personnel. First, people should keep a slightly longer time window/frame when commuting in order to reach their destination. This means there is less panic, less confusion, a relaxed mind means safer driving and one can follow rules rather than short cuts.

Follow the official alternative routes charted out rather than try and find a way out oneself. If confused, try to get help from traffic police on the way.

Given traffic and crowds, it is always challenging when roads are closed for whatever reason and people have to go for alternates. Dial down the road rage, practice patience with fellow drivers while traversing the stretch.

For traffic authorities it may be good if they can add some personnel on this road to direct people. Finally, signboards and directions need to be precise, readable and visible at all times so adequate lighting is a must. Work on the premise: clarity is equal to safety.
