It sounds like an April Fools' Day prank, and it relates to the man who made Punk'd a word, but Hollywood industry papers insist it is true.

Ashton Kutcher is going to play Steve Jobs. Directed by Joshua Michael Stern, Jobs is set to start shooting in May, with Kutcher cast in the title role.

While Sony is planning a separate biopic about the Apple founder, based on Walter Isaacson's authorised biography, Jobs is an independent biopic which is looking to steal the thunder by hitting screens first.

Written by Matt Whiteley, Jobs will tell the tale of Steve Jobs's journey from Northern California hippie to become the co-founder of Apple.

One paper suggested that "Kutcher is a natural to play Jobs; the resemblance between the two is unmistakable."u00a0But the unusual choice of lead actor has not washed well with fans online.u00a0However, he will not be the first actor to play Steve Jobs however.

Noah Wyle played him in the critically acclaimed 1999 television movie Pirates of Silicon Valley, which followed the respective rises of perennial rivals Apple and Microsoft.
