Bride's big day marred by Occupy protest

A couple had some unexpected wedding crashers when their big day was over run by protesters


It was not so much a happy ending ... as a noisy one.u00a0As Elizabeth Potts and Tim Alberts stepped out of the church in which they'd just married, one imagines the last thing they'd have expected was for their big day to be hijacked by Occupy Chicago protesters.

But after exchanging their vows, the newlyweds found themselves in the middle of a huge anti-Nato rally, which was also targeting Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's budget cuts.

Standing open-mouthed among protesters chanting ‘Whose streets? Our streets', the furious couple - both Chicago residents - were caught on camera telling the wedding party to ‘get out of here'.

Elizabeth Alberts, a spa aesthetician, was also heard asking passers-by if they had taken her bouquet, before leaving the scene.u00a0There were high tensions and frequent clashes between protesters and police during the rally, as violence broke out in pockets around the city.u00a0Police in riot gear surrounded the downtown areas of Grant Park and the Loop, and also patrolled train stations.
