China has launched the world's largest iron ore magnetisation roasting facility in Anshan, Liaoning. Developed with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the plant can process 5.56 million tonnes of ore and tailings annually.
Using world-first industrial technology, it converts ultra-low-grade tailings (11 per cent iron) into high-grade concentrate (65 per cent iron). China's imports currently provide over 80 per cent of the iron ore used by the world's top consumer.
