Imran Khan falls off forklift at rally, sustains head injuries

TV footage showed him tumbling down along with four party activists from what appeared to be a makeshift elevator raising him up to the stage during a political rally


Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief and former cricketer Imran Khan yesterday sustained injuries after falling from a ‘lifter' carrying him up from where he was to address an election rally in Lahore.

Khan along with a couple of others fell from a height of 14 to 20 ft after apparently seeming to lose his balance. The rally was held near Ghalib Market in Lahore's Gulberg neighbourhood.

TV footage showed a bleeding Khan being carried by his associates in a semi-conscious state to a vehicle, which then drove off to a hospital.

The news of Imran Khan's injuries sent a message of shock to his supporters across the country and many people rushed to the hospital.

Tehreek-e-Insaf spokesman Ejaz Chaudhry said Khan received injuries to the back of his head but was out of danger. u00a0Police sources, meanwhile, said that preliminary investigation suggests that it was an accident but they are investigating.

After the incident Nawaz Sharif announced that he won't be campaigning today in order to show solidarity with Imran Khan
