Baobab trees in Madagascar. PIC COURTESY/Nisa Karimi
Researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have identified a distinct new baobab species, Adansonia bozy, found only in Madagascar.
According to a study published in Taxon, genetic analysis showed that northern tree populations previously classified under Adansonia za are actually separate and closely related to other northern Malagasy baobabs.
This reclassification expands Madagascar's endemic baobab species count.
