The Earth Day commemorates a protest that saw millions of people taking to the streets against the negative impacts of 150 years of development and to show their love towards the environment. It was 50 years ago when US senator Gaylord Nelson decided that it was important that the environment makes some space onto national news and on the minds of the people. (Representational picture)

And it took a lockdown due to the Coronavirus for the earth to heal itself. The lockdown in India has resulted in a significant improvement in air quality in the country, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said earlier this month. Travel restrictions and closure of industries helped reduce the pollution level in different parts of the country. (Picture/Nimesh Dave)

Videos of dolphins, apparently swimming near Mumbai sea shore, went viral on social media, with some attributing the phenomenon to lack of fishing activity recently owing to the coronavirus situation. (Picture/Darshan Khatau-wildlife enthusiast)

The Dhauladhar Range in Himachal Pradesh were visible from Jalandhar in Punjab due to the improved air quality  resulted from the lockdown earlier this month.
