With the Supreme Court shutting the door on N Srinivasan's hopes of contesting the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) polls on March 2, the ruling faction has decided that Jagmohan Dalmiya will be their presidential candidate, Sunday mid-day has learnt. Since the last couple of days, the Srinivasan camp has been holding various meetings to finalise the ideal candidate to head the world's richest cricket board.

The conclusion was, however, reached during a meeting on Saturday.

A source said: "Dalmiya was the most appropriate candidate for everyone loyal to Srinivasan. He also has enough experience of the functioning of the Board."

Meanwhile, it is learnt that there is a possibility of Sharad Pawar's camp also nominating Dalmiya as their presidential candidate if the senior politician does not get a proposer and a seconder from the East Zone. Pawar arrived in Chennai on Saturday and has been busy holding meetings with his group members.

Dalmiya was made the interim chief of the BCCI after Srinivasan was forced to step aside in the wake of the Indian Premier League-6 spot fixing and betting controversy in 2013.
