The tourists lost five wickets in the afternoon session after going into lunch at 190 for five, and were in danger of not passing the follow-on mark when the lower order slumped to 220 for nine. Misbah-ul-Haq top scored for Pakistan with an unbeaten 65.

Doug Bollinger grabbed three wickets in four overs with the second new ball as Australia sets its sights on a crushing victory at the MCG.


Ricky Ponting took the second new ball as soon as it became available and Bollinger (3-50) re-entered the attack with immediate results as he dismissed nightwatchman Mohammad Aamer (15), Kamran Akmal (12) and Abdur Rauf (three).


The visitors collapsed to lose 4-17 before Misbah (65 not out) guided them past the follow-on mark to be bowled out for 258 at tea u2013 196 runs behind Australia's first-innings score of 5-454 (declared).
