Brendon McCullum urges Brydon Carse to 'get his house in order' for England return

England white-ball head coach Brendon McCullum has urged fast bowler Brydon Carse to 'get his house in order' and make smart decisions both on and off the pitch if he hopes to earn a recall to the national squad.

While admitting that Carse remains a quality player, McCullum stressed that the fast bowler must ensure he is fully prepared physically and mentally to take his next international chance.

The warning comes after Carse was removed from England's Test squad last month following an arrest on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly outside a bar while celebrating Durham's County Championship triumph.

Derbyshire Police subsequently confirmed an ongoing investigation into an alleged assault connected to the event, though Carse's exact involvement remained unconfirmed.

Carse was omitted from the England selection for the third Test against Pakistan as well as the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka.

"As far as Carsey (Brydon Carse) is concerned, it's important for Carsey that he gets his house in order. We know he's an excellent cricketer who has done well when he's played for England. It's a good chance for him now to get his house in order and then push for selection for the next opportunity that arises," McCullum said via Cricinfo.

McCullum added that playing international cricket for England requires high standards of discipline across the board.

"I've spoken to Carsey a lot. Again, it's the same message, not just to the guys within the squad at the moment, but also to those who have got aspirations of representing England in white-ball cricket over the next 12 to 18 months. We want to play the style of cricket that comes with responsibility; it comes with physical attributes which you need to be ready for. And you need to make good decisions off the field that allow you to be able to be the best version of yourself," McCullum added.

Brydon Carse has been banned before by ECB

This is not the first time Carse has faced disciplinary action. In 2024, he served a three-month ban linked to historical violations of ECB betting rules.

Despite those past setbacks, he had cemented his spot as an all-format regular for England, finishing as their top wicket-taker during the Ashes tour in Australia.
