David Warner pushed his claims for an Ashes call-up by scoring 193 for Australia 'A' in the first unofficial Test against South Africa A yesterday.

Warner struck 29 fours and a six in his 226-ball innings before being bowled by Marchant de Lange with what proved to be the final delivery of the day.

Warner shared in a 204-run fifth-wicket partnership with Glenn Maxwell (103 not out) as Australia A closed the opening day on 399 for five.

The 26-year-old Warner was sent to Australia A's tour of Africa to gain match practice after he was overlooked for the first Ashes Test at Trent Bridge having served a suspension for punching England batsman Joe Root in a Birmingham bar.

Australia banned Warner from playing in their two Ashes warm-up matches after the incident with Root, which occurred after England's Champions Trophy win last month.u00a0
