Former India skipper Dilip Vengsarkar has joined hands with the ruling Bal Mahaddalkar group for the June 17 biennial elections of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
It is learnt that Vengsarkar will stand for the vice-president's post. It can be recalled that Vengsarkar provided a tough fight to late former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Vilasrao Deshmukh in 2011 for the president's post and since then has been quite vocal against politicians taking top posts in cricket administration.

Ironically, this time Vengsarkar will be a part of the same group which in all probability would back current president Sharad Pawar for another tenure. The former India chairman of selectors took a two-year sabbatical from the MCA since losing the elections before deciding to enter the fray this time.
In a meeting of the group members, Vengsarkar urged the gathering of around 100 members to vote for the Bal Mahaddalkar group. "This is the group which will take Mumbai cricket forward," he is believed to have said.
However, in an interview to mid-day in 2013, Vengsarkar slammed the MCA for removing the monsoon flavour by starting the prestigious Dr HD Kanga Cricket League in September instead of July-August. The revamp of India's only premier monsoon tournament was a brainchild of Ravi Savant, current MCA vice-president and Bal Mahaddalkar group's core committee head.
