Doherty not a Test match bowler: Stuart MacGill

Cricket Australia's newly-appointed spin mentor Stuart MacGill has lived up to his reputation of being outspoken

In the wake of suggestions that Nathan Lyon must have left-arm spinner Xavier Doherty for company in Saturday's second Test at Hyderabad, MacGill stated that Doherty doesn't warrant Test selection. "Xavier Doherty is a great guy, but he is not a Test bowler," said MacGill in the Herald Sun.

MacGill claimed 208 wickets in 47 Tests but did not play Test cricket in India. He preferred the inclusion of Glenn Maxwell. "I'm sure he (Doherty) is awesome for the team dynamic and in the past five years I would say he has been in Australia's top three short-form spinners," said MacGill. u00a0
