England's wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler is set to return to full fitness after undergoing successful surgery on his left hamstring. Earlier, the right-handed batsman sustained an injury while batting during England's ODI series against Sri Lanka last month.
Initially, Buttler retired hurt before returning to the crease during England's second ODI match at the Headingley on September 24.
During the match, he achieved a historic feat. Buttler played a knock of 69 runs off 49 deliveries. His knock was laced with five boundaries and the same number of maximums.
With this, Buttler became the first batsman from his country to reach an aggregate of over 10,000 runs across ODIs and T20Is combined.
Currently, in 204 ODI matches, he has garnered 5678 runs with 11 centuries and 30 half-centuries. His best score in the 50-over format is an unbeaten 162 runs. In the T20Is, he has played 163 matches and has smashed 4384 runs, with two tons and 30 half-centuries.
Across his 367 white-ball outings and 326 innings, Buttler has managed 10,062 runs at an average of 37.12, including 13 centuries and 60 fifties, with a best score of an unbeaten 162 runs.
Buttler shared a story on his official social media handle. In the picture, the cricketer is seen giving a thumbs-up from his hospital bed, with his left leg secured in a brace.
"Successful surgery and on the road to recovery, Feeling more motivated than ever!," he captioned his story.
He has already been ruled out of the upcoming tri-series in Pakistan as England's squad is set to depart later this week. The 36-year-old will also likely miss England's white-ball tour of Australia in November. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will soon announce the squad for Australia's tour.
Buttler's injury has brought an untimely end to an impressive run of form for England's former white-ball captain and two-time World Cup winner. After a difficult T20 World Cup campaign in India earlier this year, where he managed just 87 runs as England reached the semi-finals, Buttler bounced back strongly, scoring 466 runs across his next nine white-ball internationals.
His resurgence included a blistering 69 off 49 balls, featuring five sixes, in the innings during which he sustained the hamstring injury.
On Monday, Buttler and fellow England white-ball veteran Adil Rashid were handed one-year contract extensions by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The extensions mean Buttler's current deal is set to expire before the start of next year's 50-over World Cup in South Africa.
