On his return from Bangladesh after the Asia Cup, Pakistan's fielding coach Shoaib Mohammad, rushed to the Aga Khan Hospital to see his ailing father and former Pakistan cricketer Hanif. Mohd Sr underwent cancer-related surgery in London last July and recently completed six cycles of chemotherapy.

The family however, kept his recent visits to the hospital a secret from his son so as to not distract Shoaib from his job at the Asia Cup. "The family hid the news of dad's hospitalisation from me for over 36 hours. They didn't want me to get distracted during the Asia Cup", Shoaib told mid-day from Karachi.

"Interestingly, dad kept inquiring about our performance in the Asia Cup whenever I asked him about his health," added the 53-year-old Shoaib. Meanwhile, the family's grandson (Shoaib's son) Shehzar has purchased a mobile number for his grandfather with the last three digits being 337 - Hanif's highest Test score for Pakistan.
