Former India captain and pace legend Kapil Dev has welcomed the return of fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar to the India squad after a four-year gap. The national selectors on Tuesday recalled the pacer for the T20I series against New Zealand later this month.
"It's good to see that! If he's the best among all, why not? Why shunt him out? The selectors must have thought of that. Kumar must have done something extraordinary to come back after four years," Kapil said on the sidelines of The Kapil Dev Invitational Tour Championship at the Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort in Greater Noida on Wednesday. The four-day tournament carries a prize purse of Rs 2 crore.
Incidentally, Bhuvneshwar's last appearance for India was also in a T20I against New Zealand in November 2022. He enjoyed an impressive IPL 2026 campaign, claiming 28 wickets to finish as the second-highest wicket-taker for Royal Challengers Bengaluru during their successful title defence.
Kapil felt Bhuvneshwar's recall is good not just for cricketers but for sportspersons across disciplines. "This recall is an incentive to lots of players, not just in cricket, but in all sports. Don't give up, keep trying, you will bounce back," said Kapil.
