While his other trekking group members survived the natural disaster, Chavda did not.

His body was brought to India yesterday and the last rites were performed at Versova crematorium. Only a portion of Chavda's face was visible as the remaining part was badly bruised.

His body was wrapped in plastic. Chavda's father Pravinsinh and brother Ketan tried hard to control their emotions. His mother Hariba was inconsolable as the body arrived. "You were to take me to Lilavati Hospital. Now with whom will I go?" she was heard saying.

Meanwhile, no one from the cricketing fraternity was seen at the funeral. Chavda was Mumbai Ranji Trophy team's physiotherapist from 2001 to 2006.

Actor Kunal Vijayakar, who treated by Chavda for his hip, came to pay his last respects. "He was the best," Vijayakar said.
