Team India will host the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13, 2026 at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

Following the summit, the Delhi Traffic Police had earlier asked the Delhi & District Cricket Association to reschedule the first match between Team India and Afghanistan on September 13. The clash was scheduled to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

However, the DDCA shared an update on its official social media handle that the match will be played according to the schedule.

"India-Afghanistan 1st T20I on 13 September at Arun Jaitley Stadium will go ahead as scheduled. Following a meeting with Delhi Traffic Police, DDCA has been assured of all necessary support and arrangements. No postponement," read the post's caption.

The second game will be played on September 15, followed by the third match on September 17. The Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi will host all three shortest-format matches between the "Men in Blue" and the Afghans.

Shreyas Iyer will continue to lead the "Men in Blue" in the shortest-format series, and Tilak Varma will be his deputy.

All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, and Harshit Rana have also been included in India's squad for the series. However, their feature will be subject to fitness.

Lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah will mark his return to the squad after being sidelined due to an injury. Earlier, he sustained a knee injury during the ODI series against England, following which he also missed the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.

Earlier, opening batsman Ibrahim Zadran was officially named Afghanistan's T20I captain. This will be his first series as Afghanistan's full-time T20I skipper.

Spin star Rashid Khan will lead an elite spin unit alongside Noor Ahmad and Nangyal Kharoti, joined by veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi.

The squad for the Afghanistan series is similar to the Asian Games starting later this month in Japan's Aichi-Nagoya.
