Team India stalwart Virat Kohli could be making his last appearance at the Adelaide Oval - where he has played some of his best cricket - in the second ODI match against Australia.

At the stadium, Kohli is India's highest run-scorer of all time. Having played 12 matches at the venue, the right-hander has scored 975 runs, with an average of 65.

He also has five centuries and four half-centuries, with a top score of 141 runs.

The Delhi-born cricketer is the best visiting batsman of all time at the venue, and Adelaide is his home away from home.

After enduring a disappointing outing in the first ODI match against the Aussies, Kohli will be looking to put on a big score in the second match.

In what was his international comeback, the right-hander returned to the pavilion on an eight-ball duck in the first match. The second ODI match between Team India and Australia will be played on Thursday, October 23.

The date, October 23, also holds a great significance in Kohli's career, and the soon-to-be 37-year-old could script another core memory for the Indian cricket audience.

On the same date in the year 2022, Kohli pulled off a masterclass run chase against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Having put to chase a target of 160 runs, the right-hander played an unbeaten knock of 82 runs, which indeed goes down as one of the finest innings played by any batsman in the history of the shortest format of the game.

Fans across the globe would be expecting to witness a Virat Kohli masterclass. The series will act as a crucial contest for him to keep his place secured in India's One-Day Internationals (ODI) set-up.

There are speculations over Kohli's place in Team India ahead of ODI World Cup 2027. By then, Kohli will turn 38, and with age, the right-hander will be facing several challenges in terms of form and fitness.

The "Men in Blue", under the leadership of newly appointed captain Shubman Gill, have been trailing 0-1 against the Aussies. Gill was named as India's new ODI captain after replacing Rohit Sharma for the role.

Sharma, too, had a poor outing as he managed to score just eight runs off 14 deliveries in the first game. His knock included one boundary.
