In the first ODI match against England, Team India emerged victorious by six wickets at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham.
With an aim of chasing the target of 259 runs, Team India's opening batsman Rohit Sharma was dismissed on 11 runs in 21 balls, including a boundary. Virat Kohli managed to score five runs in six balls, which included a boundary.
Captain Shubman Gill was retired hurt on 80 runs in 75 balls. His knock also included 11 boundaries and a maximum. Facing 53 balls, Shreyas Iyer accumulated 35 runs, with the help of two boundaries. KL Rahul was dismissed on one run in three balls.
Washington Sundar and Axar Patel stayed unbeaten. Facing 63 balls, Sundar smashed 52 runs, including four boundaries and a maximum, whereas Axar registered 57 runs in 52 balls, with the help of five boundaries and a maximum.
England's Jofra Archer, Josh Tongue, and Sam Curran bagged one wicket each. Adil Rashid, Jacob Bethell, Liam Dawson, and Will Jacks went wicketless in the first ODI match against Team India.
Earlier, having opted to bat first, England's opening batsman Jacob Bethell departed after scoring 14 runs in 31 balls, including a boundary. Fellow opening batsman Ben Duckett was also dismissed on 43 runs, which came in 45 balls, including six boundaries and two maximums.
Skipper Harry Brook returned to the pavilion on one run in three balls. Wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler and Sam Curran also registered five and zero runs, respectively. Buttler faced 14 balls, whereas Curran faced three deliveries. Will Jacks was dismissed on 20 runs in 19 balls. His knock included three boundaries. Liam Dawson played a crucial knock of 68 runs. Facing 83 balls, he smashed six boundaries and a maximum.
Jofra Archer departed after scoring 12 runs in six balls, which included a boundary and a maximum. Adil Rashid managed to score just one run in five balls. Josh Tongue was dismissed on a two-ball duck. Joe Root played an unbeaten knock of 76 runs off 76 deliveries, which was laced with six boundaries and a maximum. With this, England was bowled out for 258 runs in 47.5 overs.
Team India's Axar Patel returned with the figures of four wickets for 62 runs in 9.5 overs. Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar also bagged two wickets each. Jasprit Bumrah and Shivam Dube also chipped in with one wicket each. Washington Sundar went wicketless in the first ODI match against the "Three Lions".
