Mohammed Siraj was overcome with emotion as he broke down in tears after being dismissed as the final Indian batter in a heart-wrenching finish to the third Test at Lord's. Tasked with the responsibility of supporting Ravindra Jadeja in a tense chase, Siraj fought valiantly, defending with grit and determination. But fate had other plans. In the 75th over, Siraj attempted to block a delivery from off-spinner Shoaib Bashir. The ball took a faint touch off the bat and, almost in slow motion, rolled back to gently dislodge the bails.

Set 193 to win, India were bowled out for 170 just after the tea break on the final day, falling 22 agonising runs short. The moment of Siraj's dismissal was met with immediate empathy from the England players. Harry Brook, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes quickly walked up to console the visibly distraught pacer, that evoked memories of the iconic 2005 Edgbaston Test, when Andrew Flintoff consoled Australia's Michael Kasprowicz after a similar heartbreak.

Jadeja, who finished unbeaten on 61, stood tall amid the chaos, compiling his fourth successive fifty in the series and nearly guiding India to a famous win. His partnership with Siraj had reignited hopes in the Indian camp, as the duo chipped away at the remaining target. Earlier, Jadeja had also shared a fighting stand with Jasprit Bumrah, who resisted for 54 deliveries before falling to a fired-up Ben Stokes.

Stokes led from the front once again, delivering two crucial spells on Day 5 and finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 48. Making his long-awaited return to Test cricket after more than four years, Jofra Archer reminded everyone of his class and venom, claiming 3 for 55 and bowling a fiery spell in the first session that broke India's back.

India began the day needing 135 runs with six wickets in hand. England dominated the first session, removing Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Reddy to reduce India to 112 for 8. However, the hosts were then made to toil through the next two sessions, as India's lower order showed remarkable resistance and brought the target within reach. But in the end, it wasn't enough.

Brief scores:

England: 387 & 192
India: 387 & 170 all out in 74.5 overs (KL Rahul 39, Ravindra Jadeja 61'; Jofra Archer 3/55, Ben Stokes 3/48)
