IND vs ENG ODIs: Virat Kohli named in India's squad for England series

Star batsman Virat Kohli was named in India's squad for the three-match ODI series against England. His feature is subject to fitness clearance as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-man squad for the white-ball series against the "Three Lions".

The right-handed batsman is in Delhi for a promotional event and will report to the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru on Monday for a fitness test.

Earlier, Kohli sustained a hamstring injury during the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clinched the title. The injury also forced him to rule out of the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.

"Against England, there won't be much experiment with top order. Virat comes back at No.3 and Gill will open with Rohit Sharma. For back up opener's slot, selectors have Ishan Kishan who can be used as a floater," a BCCI source privy to selection matters told PTI.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been dropped from the squad after the recently concluded Afghanistan series. Lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah has also been called back in the squad after being rested due to workload management.

Recently, the Shubman Gill-led "Men in Blue" clinched the three-match ODI series by 3-0 against the Afghans.

On the other hand, spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has been dropped from India's T20I squad for the Ireland series. He is still recovering from his foot injury. The "Men in Blue" will lock horns with Ireland for the two-match T20I series, which will begin from June 26, with the first match set to be played at the Stormont Cricket Ground in Belfast.

The three-match ODI series against the Englishmen will kick off from July 14, with the first match scheduled to be played at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham.
