In the second Test match against South Africa, Team India suffered a humiliating loss by a margin of 408 runs at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati.

The win also helped the visitors to register a whitewash by 2-0 against Team India.

Following the match results, former South Africa cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has suggested that India shorten the Indian Premier League (IPL) and focus on playing more Test cricket to improve their performance.

In a social media post, Gibbs wrote, "Shorten IPL and play more test cricket".

This marks their third Test series loss in 16 months under coach Gautam Gambhir.

In an attempt to chase the target of 549 runs, the hosts were bowled out for 140 runs, thanks to Simon Harmer's bowling heroics.

Harmer claimed six wickets by conceding 37 runs in 23 overs. With this, the Proteas scripted history by clinching their first Test series win in India in 25 years.

Team India's star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was the highest run-scorer in the second innings. Facing 87 balls, the left-hander scored 54 runs, including four boundaries and two maximums.

This was the second time in a space of mere 13 months that India ended up whitewashed at home, severely denting their chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship.

It is also the first time in 66 years that the team has lost five Tests in a period of seven months.

With the conclusion of the longest format series, Team India and South Africa will now engage in the white-ball series, from November 30. It will include three One-Day International (ODI) matches and five T20 International (T20I) games.

The first ODI match will be played at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) International Stadium Complex, while the second clash is scheduled at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Raipur on December 3. The ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam will host the third and final ODI match between India and South Africa on December 6.
