In the first ODI match against the West Indies, Team India secured a win by eight wickets at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
During the match, Team India's skipper Shubman Gill smashed 110 runs in 108 balls, including 13 boundaries and a maximum. Shouldering him was star batsman Virat Kohli, who delivered an unbeaten knock of 139 runs off just 88 deliveries. His knock was laced with 10 boundaries and nine maximums.
The skipper then expressed his views on batting alongside Kohli by saying that it was fun and he never thought of sharing the crease with the Delhi-born batsman while he achieved the milestone of 15,000 ODI runs.
"It was fun batting with Paaji here. I have batted with him twice here (at Thiruvananthapuram). Both times, we got a 100-run partnership and scored centuries. Very happy; growing up, I never thought I would be alongside Virat bhai when he completes his 15,000 ODI runs. From watching him and idolising him to being on the crease with him and sharing those moments, I think the journey has been great so far, and I hope we will share even more memories," said Gill after the match.
He then said that the confidence in Kohli's batting reflects from off the field to on the field.
"We can all see how much Virat bhai is enjoying his batting right now. The ease and confidence with which he is batting right now, it translates from off the field to on the field," he said.
With this, the "Men in Blue" have taken a lead by 1-0 against the Caribbean team. The second ODI match between the teams will be played on September 30 at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati.
Indian captain Gill scored a blistering 110 runs off 108 deliveries, along with Kohli's century, as India comfortably defeated West Indies in the first ODI. Gill's innings included 13 fours and one six before he was caught in the deep off Roston Chase's bowling.
Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav was the star with the ball for India as he took four wickets for 40 runs in his ten overs. Prasidh Krishna chipped in with two wickets, while Nitish Kumar Reddy got one.
For West Indies, Justin Greaves scored a blistering 101 runs early in the game. He was well supported by Amir Jangoo, who scored a quickfire 58 runs in the death overs as West Indies managed to score 296 runs in their 50 overs.
