Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opener Shubman Gill has managed just 80 runs in five IPL-14 games. Yet, KKR's mentor David Hussey believes that Gill will emerge one of the top-scorers in the tournament.

India batsman Gill, 21, scored a meagre 11 in 19 balls versus Rajasthan Royals (RR) as KKR suffered a six-wicket loss in Mumbai on Saturday.

His best performance of the tournament came against Mumbai Indians on April 13 in Chennai, where he scored 33 in 24 balls.

"Mark my words, I think he will be one of the highest-scoring batsmen by the end of the tournament. He is an absolute class act," Hussey said at the post-match virtual press conference on Saturday night.

Explaining the logic behind his thoughts, Hussey said: "He is a star player. That's one thing. I do know that he took the Test match arena by storm in Australia. The way he works on his game in the nets, he's very specific. He has a great work ethic. So, all I can say is that form will come and go but class is permanent."

Riding on a superb bowling effort from all-rounder Chris Morris (4-23), RR restricted KKR to 133-9 in the allotted 20 overs. They then chased down the target convincingly thanks to skipper Sanju Samson's unbeaten 42 in 41 balls and 24 not out from David Miller.
