The decision comes after a brief suspension of the tournament earlier this month due to heightened geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan, following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack. The IPL resumed on May 17, following a one-week pause and the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between the two nations. While the revised schedule was released shortly after the resumption, the venues for the playoffs remained unconfirmed until now.
Originally, the IPL 2025 final was set to be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, while Qualifier 2 was also scheduled for the same venue. Additionally, Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was initially slated to host Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator. However, the IPL Governing Council opted to change the venues, citing weather-related concerns and other logistical parameters.
"The new venues for the Playoffs were decided by the IPL Governing Council keeping in mind the weather conditions and other parameters," an official BCCI release stated.
As the league phase nears its conclusion, the playoff picture is beginning to take shape. Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings have already sealed their spots in the top four. The race for the final playoff berth is now down to Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals.
The decisive match will take place at Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, where Mumbai Indians face off against Delhi Capitals. A victory for Hardik Pandya's MI will ensure their qualification for the playoffs, completing the final four lineup.
With high-stakes fixtures and world-class venues lined up, the IPL 2025 playoffs promise to deliver thrilling cricket and dramatic finishes as teams vie for the coveted trophy in the tournament's 18th edition.
