Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta has urged "verified voices and media professionals" to act responsibly and avoid spreading unverified information amid the franchise's poor run of form in IPL 2026.
The statement comes after Punjab Kings suffered their fourth consecutive defeat, losing to the Delhi Capitals following an impressive seven-match winning streak earlier in the season. Reports alleging a lack of discipline among players on and off the field surfaced during the team's recent slump.
Preity Zinta urges responsible reporting
Reacting to the reports, Zinta called on people to verify information before amplifying false narratives.
"There's a difference between criticism and calculated misinformation. Healthy debate around the game is welcome, but the deliberate spread of fake narratives to damage individuals, the team, or the brand should not and will not be taken lightly," Zinta posted on her official X account.
"I urge everyone, including verified voices and media professionals, to exercise responsibility before amplifying unverified information. Thank you," she added.
Punjab Kings issue official statement
Punjab Kings also released an official statement, urging people not to spread fake stories for social media engagement.
"Criticism, banter, and opinions are part of sport. Fake stories and made-up narratives for cheap engagement are not. We urge everyone to verify facts before spreading misinformation for attention or traction," the franchise posted on X.
Punjab Kings have endured a difficult phase in the tournament, particularly with their bowling performances. The side failed to defend a target of 223 runs against the Rajasthan Royals in Mullanpur before suffering defeats against the Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals.
Dropped catches, poor fielding, and expensive bowling spells have contributed significantly to the team's recent losses.
After once topping the points table, Punjab Kings have now slipped to fourth place with 13 points from six wins, four losses, and one draw.
Crucial clash against the Mumbai Indians.
Punjab Kings will next face the Mumbai Indians in Dharamsala in a crucial encounter for their playoff hopes. PBKS will aim to remain in the top four and avoid any further setbacks in the tournament.
