England showed the intent that coach Trevor Bayliss spoke about, especially the tail, marshalled by Jos Buttler, as they managed to add additional runs which may make a difference if they can restrict India to a low score today.

When Ben Stokes was the sixth man to get out with 297 on the board, and R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were firing on all cylinders, England would have been happy to settle for anything between 325 to 350. But Buttler had other ideas. It was his intelligence, coupled with grit and determination from Chris Woakes, Moeen Ali and Jake Ball, that England managed to reach the 400-run mark. About his knock, Buttler said: "It was very pleasing. I felt the team needs them and that's really satisfying. I really enjoyed my time in the middle and getting." Buttler, who played for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL), said that his stint here helped a lot going into this Test match. "Having practised and played here, although in different circumstances, helped," he said.
