Playing under the tutelage of the Indian legend Rahul Dravid is a huge opportunity for any young player.

Delhi Daredevils' off-spinning all-rounder, Jayant Yadav, believes that the former India captain encourages players to think on their own and backs them to come good.

Yadav, who is a part of the Indian team for the tour to Zimbabwe, said, "I think Rahul bhai always stresses on being your own coach - as in making your own plans and discussing it with the captain, making him aware of particular plans for a particular wicket or a batsman. It was more about making my own plans, that is what he always stressed on. He always backed you."

Despite a steady domestic season, Yadav turned up in only five matches for the Delhi Daredevils. He wants to build on that as he prepares for his maiden international sojourn. "I was given a certain role (at Delhi Daredevils). I took it as a challenge - to bowl with the new ball.

"It was basically playing to my strength and not the strengths of the batsmen and not bowl too many variations. I want to translate this in Zimbabwe. Whatever role I'm given, I will stick to my strength," Yadav said.

A young Indian squad under the leadership of MS Dhoni is touring Zimbabwe for three one-day internationals and three T20 internationals. While this is a big opportunity for many youngsters, there is a fear that performances against Zimbabwe may not carry much weight.

However, an optimistic Yadav said, "We are just excited to go on an India tour with MS Dhoni."
