India's decision to retain the spin trio of R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Rahul Sharma backfired as the visitors plummeted to a 65-run defeat (D/L) in the tri-series opener against Australia here at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) yesterday.

The trio conceded 133 runs from 14 oversu00a0-- going at 9.5 runs per over after India won the toss and chose to bowl under overcast skies. India skipper MS Dhoni admitted that spinners would have to improve quickly.

"It is a worry (that they are not performing well). If you see, when Jadeja doesn't bowl well, the stability of the side gets affected. He's someone who can do that job. We need a batsman at No 7 who can also bowl," he said.u00a0
