The Asia Cup, scheduled to be played in Bangladesh in March, could be shifted to Sri Lanka given the political unrest in that country

BCCI President N Srinivasan, who is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is travelling to Sri Lanka today to discuss this. Bangladesh is already hosting the World T20 in February-March and it is learnt that the Bangladesh board is notcomfortable hosting back-to-back tournaments given their political instability.

According to a BCCI source, Srinivasan enjoys good relations with the Lankan board and there exists a 10-year contract between both countries for a bilateral series.

So, Sri Lanka is the best option to host the Asia Cup. Srinivasan is travelling to Lanka with another agenda. "Due to the general elections in India (April-May), BCCI is looking for alternate venues to shift the IPL and is keen to convince SLC to host these matches, which in turn will bring in good revenue.

Given that the IPL also features a number of Sri Lankan players, SLC is also in a better position to draw crowds to the stadiums," the source added.
