Warner in trouble for Twitter war with journos

Australian batsman David Warner is under investigation following comments on his Twitter account directed against two of the country's leading cricket writers, Cricket Australia said on Saturday.

Warner, who is playing in the Indian Premier League, began a fiery exchange via his Twitter account @davidwarner31 against News Ltd's Robert Craddock, who wrote a piece published Saturday critical of the IPL. "Beneath the glitz, glamour and hype so plastic you could wrap your sandwiches in it, the Indian Premier League is a smouldering cesspit. The sunniest of places for the shadiest people," is how Craddock's piece began.

Cricket Australia neither confirmed nor denied whether the tweets emanated from Warner's account, however a CA spokesman said general manager of team performance Pat Howard was contacting Warner and the player's manager to clarify the situation.

CA said in a statement it was looking into its players' code of conduct and a spokesman said it would its take time to consider its next steps in the matter. "Cricket Australia is attempting to contact Warner and will continue to investigate the matter. Cricket Australia will make further comment once it has conducted a thoroughu00a0investigation."

The dashing opener plays for the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL tournament which was rocked this week by accusations of spot fixing against three players, including Indian Test paceman S Sreesanth. After posting a tweet with expletives aimed at Craddock, urging him to "get a real job", the cricketer then appeared to take issue with Craddock's News Ltd colleague Malcolm Conn in abusive tweets sparking a back-and-forth exchange. Warner averaged 24.38 on Australia's recent India tour.
