In the first Test match against South Africa, Team India skipper Shubman Gill suffered a neck sprain, following which he was forced to walk off the field
However, his availability for the second Test match hangs in doubt. The second Test match between Team India and South Africa is scheduled to be played from November 22 at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati
If he misses out on the second Test match, Devdutt Padikkal will be a contender to replace Gill in the playing XI. The left-hander has not received a fair amount of chances, as he has so far played just two Test matches. Padikkal can help India provide stability at the top, considering that he will feature as a specialist batsman
Nitish Kumar Reddy's chances of being selected in the playing XI are slightly higher. The 22-year-old cricketer also provides the option of an additional pacer, considering his all-round abilities
Akash Deep is the third option left for the role. But considering the likes of batsmen in the Indian team, it seems that an additional pacer may not find his place in the mix
